Started in February 2008, the Fiberarts Guild of Pittsburgh's Education and Outreach Committee facilitated fiber art creation with middle school youth at the Arsenal Middle School. The students consist of refugee children from all over the world including Iraq, Somalia and Myanmar. The intention of using of fiber/visual art was to provide a common language based on familiar objects and techniques such as fabric and sewing while expanding on the children's (and volunteer's) sense of community.
